Pipestem State Park

Pipestem State Park is a breathtaking natural retreat in southern West Virginia, known for its lush forests, rolling hills, and striking mountain vistas. Visitors can immerse themselves in a range of outdoor activities—from hiking scenic trails and canoeing along the Bluestone River, to soaring above the canopy on a zip line. With its diverse wildlife, abundant fishing spots, and serene picnic areas, Pipestem invites travelers to experience authentic Appalachian beauty and tranquility.

McKeever Lodge stands as the welcoming centerpiece of Pipestem State Park, offering comfortable accommodations with panoramic views of the rugged landscape. The lodge’s spacious guest rooms, on-site dining, and cozy common areas provide a restful haven after a day of adventure. Whether you’re enjoying a meal overlooking distant peaks, warming by the fireplace, or planning tomorrow’s nature excursion, McKeever Lodge seamlessly blends modern comfort with the park’s timeless natural splendor.

Mountain Creek Lodge provides a more secluded and immersive nature experience. Accessible by aerial tramway, this lodge places guests right at creek level, surrounded by lush foliage and the gentle sounds of flowing water. Inside, the rooms are comfortable yet rustic, offering a cozy retreat after a day spent exploring nearby hiking trails or simply enjoying the tranquil atmosphere. Whether you’re waking up to misty mornings by the river or stargazing beneath the clear Appalachian skies, Mountain Creek Lodge captures the quieter, more intimate side of Pipestem’s natural beauty.

Pipestem State Park is not only one of our favorite parks, but one of our favorite vacation destinations. Our whole family finds something to enjoy and we rarely have a moment of downtime with all that we do. We like to stay at the top on weekdays and on weekends we stay down at Mountain Creek Lodge. This year we did a week long trip with our family and then just Sam and I went back for my birthday weekend.

Here are some pictures from this year.
