A.W. Marion State Park

This rural park offers rolling woodlands and the quiet waters of Hargus Lake. Once part of the state’s prairie peninsula, the park’s 310 acres showcase a variety of native landscapes and wildlife. A great way to see the park is to hike the Hargus Lake Trail, which traverses the entire lake shoreline.

We decided to venture over to A.W. Marion State Park for a short day visit while staying at another park. We walked around the A.W. Marion Monument and found a nice place for a picnic at the Day-Use Shelter House on Hargus Lake. While the park does offer a Dog Swim Area, something we really find nice, we didn’t utilize it this trip. We also didn’t make our way to the campground as we mainly visited the west side of the lake. We enjoyed our visit and like so many parks, only got to get a small taste of all it has to offer!
